FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Makawao, Maui, Hawaii (April 13, 2004) – The Plein Aire Painters of Maui, a society that sprung from one of George Allan’s original classes, along with artists from Viewpoints Gallery, Lahaina Galleries, and Village Galleries, were hosted at Piiholo Ranch in Upcountry Makawao for painting and photography ‘out on the range’ on Wednesday, April 7. A total of 38 artists attended the event, a noteworthy turnout. The visiting artists painted on location from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. and were transported to remote areas via four-wheel drive by Peter Baldwin and his sons, Chris and Duke. After the paint out, the group was hosted for a BBQ lunch at the pavilion near the stage coach and horse arena, and some artists brought potluck dishes. Artists in attendance included George and Janet Allan, Betty Hay Freeland, and Ronaldo Macedo, to name a few. Please see pictures of artists attached.

Koana Smith, coordinator of this event and artist at Lahaina Arts Society, commented before the event, “I think it’s a marvelous opportunity to paint somewhere new for us. Sue Perry visited [Piiholo Ranch] and thought there were so many beautiful potential paintings there. It will be fun to see what everyone does, and I’m sure a lot of the paintings will appear in galleries and the Makawao paint out. It’s great exposure for the ranch, and we are appreciative to Peter for extending this invitation.”
