A six generation Baldwin cowboy, Chris Baldwin, is the youngest son of Peter Baldwin and the cattle manager at Piiholo Ranch, a position responsible for maintaining cattle, helping with the horseback operation and land resource management. He also assists head wrangler and wife, Tamalyn Baldwin, with throwing saddles, preparing the horses for trail rides, and occasionally leading rides for guests. He is often recognized on horseback wearing a baseball cap and herding cattle with his Border collie / Kelpie dogs from Australia.
Regarding his vision for Piiholo Ranch, Chris comments, “It is turning out to be a lot bigger than we expected as far as the horse operation goes; it is growing and expanding. We’re getting into hiking and, of course, the horse segment has a lot of potential.”
In his spare time, Chris is enthused by a hidden passion that could ruin his tough-guy image…golf! Chris calls himself a “full-blown golf junkie” and enjoys playing courses all over Maui. Also, he has enjoyed playing polo. Prior to joining Piiholo Ranch with his dad, Chris worked at Haleakala Ranch from 1995-2001 and piloted a Cessna 310 for Baldwin Pacific, Goodfellow, JDH, and Hana Hotel. From 1993-95, Chris studied aeronautical science at Embry Riddle University in Arizona; at age 16, he started flying a (twin-engine, 6-passenger plane) to transport goods and equipment for the aforementioned companies, and he also has a commercial helicopter license. Born in 1969 and raised on Maui, Chris grew up dirt biking and has been riding horses since before he can remember.
