March 2005
NFR header Craig Hamilton came over to Maui and showed us a few things about roping and horsemanship. He’s all about the horse and a great guy as well. The first day rained so we were inside on the roping dummys and then on Sunday were coming out of the chutes. Craig addressed the individuality of the horses as they went into the box. Some may have anxiety where others were smarter than their human and knew how to get around them and the box. We were able to watch and learn how to lay a horse down safely. Pete roped with Craig a bunch on his new horse Tommy and learned new ways to better postion himself behind the steer and how to get his horse set up perfect for that perfect loop. Craig ended up staying the week here on Maui and we rode with him everyday. Look for our new “Lead Steer” pen out at the ranch. - Tamalyn
