In December 2004 many up-country cowgirls and cowboys were given a horsemanship clinic for Christmas. Buck, Mary and their kids had a warm Maui Christmas with a coconut tree as a Christmas tree. (Well, not really) Shane, Joann and CJ Jackson from Mcginnis Meadows Ranch in Montana also came for an Aloha Christmas.
It was Bucks first time on Maui and we had Foundation Horsemanship in the morning and Ranch Roping in the afternoon. The clinic was full and there were many auditors. To hear Buck’s stories and his “no nonsense” attitude was a breath of fresh air. Ulupalukua Ranch cowboys came down and rode and we all worked on us and our horses.
Ranch roping is the best! I can do that all day. Buck knows 17 different heel shots and 11 different head shots. Sick! We spent 3 days just trying to get that ‘ol Hip Shot down. As we gathered the steers in the cool early morning we wished that the day would go slower as we didn’t want the clinic to end. Practicing all we learned will keep us full for a while and hungry for his return next year.
If your going to be on Maui January 2006 and you’d like to attend Buck’s clinic we have horses available. Check out more clinic photos in the Photo Gallery.
